NY Boiler & Air Conditioning Repair
Reliable Cooling Technicians Serving Long Island & NYC
A boiler that hasn’t been cleaned in a year isn’t just burning fuel. It’s burning money.
I’m Louie the Boiler Man. For over twenty years I’ve been opening up boilers in Baldwin, Freeport, Oceanside, Rockville Centre and Merrick that haven’t seen a brush or a vacuum since the day they were installed. Soot on the heat exchanger, a burner out of tune, a flame sensor coated in grime — none of it stops the boiler today. What it does is quietly add 10 to 15 percent to your heating bill, season after season, and set you up for a no-heat call on the coldest night of January.
An annual cleaning and tune-up is the cheapest insurance your heating system can get. And when we do it, we actually do it: torn down, cleaned out, tested with real instruments, and tuned to spec. Not a ten-minute look and a sticker on the jacket.
What’s included — oil boilers
What’s included — gas boilers
Why this matters so much on the South Shore
Most of the homes in Baldwin, Freeport and Rockville Centre went up before 1960. That means older cast-iron boilers, plenty of steam systems still working hard, and piping that’s been modified five times by five different owners. These systems will run for decades — if somebody takes care of them. Skip the maintenance and you get soot acting like a blanket inside the heat exchanger, banging pipes, radiators that never quite get hot, and efficiency that slips a little more every winter.
And if you live near the water — Oceanside, Island Park, Long Beach — salt air eats at burner components and venting faster than it does inland. South of Sunrise Highway, annual service isn’t a luxury. It’s how the equipment survives.
When to book
September through early November is the smart window, before the first real cold snap fills the schedule with emergency no-heat calls. And if you fire the boiler up on that first cold night and smell oil, hear banging, or see soot — stop and call us before you keep running it.
Where we work
We’re based at 997 Merrick Road in Baldwin, which puts us minutes from Freeport, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Merrick, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Hempstead, Island Park and Long Beach. Same-day service is usually available inside this zone — we’re local, not dispatched from two counties away.
Call or text 516-377-5200, or send us a text at (917) 468-2325, and we’ll get you on the fall schedule.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a boiler be cleaned?
Once a year. Oil boilers especially — soot builds up on the heat exchanger every season and works like insulation, so the boiler burns more fuel for the same heat. Gas burns cleaner, but igniters, flame sensors and venting still need an annual check.
How long does a boiler tune-up take?
A proper oil boiler cleaning takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. A gas tune-up usually runs about an hour. If we find a problem, we tell you before we touch anything.
Do you service steam boilers?
Yes. Many pre-war homes in Freeport, Rockville Centre and Baldwin still run steam. We clean, tune and repair steam systems, including low-water cutoff service and radiator balancing.
What brands of oil burners do you work on?
All major brands, with deep hands-on experience on Riello, Beckett and Carlin burners — cleaning, tuning and repair.
Is a tune-up worth it on an old boiler?
Especially then. An older boiler that’s cleaned and tuned can keep running well for years. And if it really is near the end, better to hear it in October than find out at 2 AM in January.
