Gas & Oil Furnace Repair in Baldwin & Nassau County

Call Now to Request Service! (516) 377-5200

Yes, the Boiler Man fixes furnaces too.

The name on the truck says boilers, but about half the homes we walk into in Nassau County run warm-air heat — a gas or oil furnace in the basement pushing heat through ducts. When that furnace starts blowing cold air, clicking without lighting, or turning itself on and off every few minutes, the diagnosis game is the same one I’ve been playing since 2012: find the real problem, fix that, and don’t sell you a part you don’t need.

I’m Louie the Boiler Man — licensed, insured, and based at 997 Merrick Road in Baldwin. Furnace calls in Baldwin, Freeport, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Merrick and the rest of South Nassau are usually same-day, because we’re already in the neighborhood.

The furnace problems we see every week

No heat at all — dead igniter, failed gas valve, tripped safety, or a control board that gave up
Blowing cold or lukewarm air — dirty flame sensor, clogged filter, or a limit switch doing its job for a bad reason
Short-cycling — furnace fires, runs a few minutes, shuts down, repeats. Usually overheating from a clogged filter or dirty blower, and it eats parts fast
Loud starts — booming, banging or squealing at ignition, which usually means delayed ignition or a blower belt/bearing on its way out
Furnace runs but some rooms stay cold — blower, ductwork or airflow problems
Burner trouble on oil furnaces — nozzles, filters, electrodes and pumps on Riello, Beckett and Carlin burners, same as we do on oil boilers every day

Gas furnaces and oil furnaces are different animals

A lot of outfits will happily ‘look at’ an oil furnace and then start guessing, because oil work is its own trade — combustion has to be set with an analyzer, nozzles matched, draft dialed in. We come from the oil side. Burner work is our home turf, and that experience carries straight over to oil-fired furnaces. On the gas side, it’s flame sensors, igniters, gas pressure and venting — tested with instruments, not by feel. Either fuel, the visit ends the same way: a combustion test, a carbon monoxide check, and a straight explanation of what we found.

The part nobody talks about: the heat exchanger

A furnace has one job-critical part that ages in silence — the heat exchanger, the metal wall between the flames and the air you breathe. When it cracks, combustion gases can slip into the airstream, and that’s how carbon monoxide ends up in bedrooms. This is why furnace maintenance isn’t just about efficiency. Every furnace we service gets a CO test as standard procedure, and if we ever find a cracked exchanger, we’ll shut it down and show you the crack — not describe it vaguely and slide a quote across the table.

Repair or replace? The honest math

Furnaces in our area realistically live 15 to 20 years. Past that point, if a repair runs more than about a third the cost of a new unit — or the heat exchanger is cracked — replacement usually wins, and we’ll say so. Under that, we fix it and you get more winters out of what you own. What we won’t do is use a $200 problem to sell you a $6,000 furnace. That’s how a local shop stays local for fourteen years.

Keep it from breaking in the first place

Almost every emergency furnace call we run in January traces back to maintenance that didn’t happen in October. An annual furnace tune-up — burners cleaned, flame sensor polished, filter changed, blower checked, combustion and CO tested — costs a fraction of a no-heat emergency and is the single best thing you can do for the system. Ask about adding your furnace to a yearly service plan and it stops being something you have to remember.

Where we work

Baldwin, Freeport, Merrick, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Island Park, Long Beach, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Hempstead and all of South Nassau. Call or text 516-377-5200 — or text a video of what the furnace is doing to (917) 468-2325. Hearing the noise it makes gets you a faster diagnosis.

Our Nassau County furnace experts repair all major gas and oil furnace brands and models, providing honest diagnostics, reliable repairs, and replacement options when a new system makes more sense. Contact us today to schedule a convenient appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?

The usual suspects: a dirty flame sensor shutting the burner down, a clogged filter overheating the furnace and tripping the limit switch, a failed igniter, or a thermostat fan setting stuck on ON so the blower runs without heat. Some of these are simple — but repeated overheating shortens the life of the heat exchanger, so if it keeps happening, have it looked at.

Why does my furnace keep turning on and off?

Short-cycling usually means the furnace is overheating and protecting itself — most often a clogged filter or blocked return, a dirty blower, a failing limit switch, or a furnace that was oversized for the house. It wastes fuel and wears parts fast. It’s the symptom we’d most want you to call about early.

Do you repair oil furnaces or only gas?

Both. Oil-fired warm-air furnaces are common in older Nassau County homes, and burner work is our home turf — Riello, Beckett and Carlin included, with nozzles, filters, electrodes and combustion set by analyzer.

How often should a furnace be serviced?

Once a year, ideally in the fall. An annual cleaning and tune-up keeps the furnace efficient and catches problems — including heat exchanger cracks — before the dead of winter.

Is a cracked heat exchanger dangerous?

Yes — it can let combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, mix into the air blowing through your home. Every furnace service we do includes a CO test, and every home with a furnace should have working CO detectors.

Should I repair or replace my furnace?

Rule of thumb: past 15 years old and the repair costs more than a third of a new unit — or the heat exchanger is cracked — replacement usually wins. Under that, repair usually makes sense. We’ll give you the honest math for your situation.
